9 Weeks Out

We are excited about our training!  The weather is changing some, so we have been able to get outside and do some pretty fun runs with friends.  Jordan is a natural (but I have to remind him to pace himself). :)  We are loving getting to run together.  Thanks again for partnering with us in this journey to raise awareness and funds for our friends at Kebron.  We have raised almost $100 so far to go toward the bathroom construction.  THANK YOU!

Great group run today with my buddies. :)  It wasn't really 4:30am....

Jordan and I joined some friends from school on the LCA track on Friday.  We like to pretend that we are on the track team sometimes.

If you would like to write a check, you can make checks payable to Children's Hope Chest and use code ET4901000/Kebron bathroom in the memo of the check.  All donations are tax-deductible!

Run for Kebron

Jordan and I are excited to let you know that we are running for our friends at Kebron again!  A couple of years ago, we partnered with you to run and raise funds for each of these students in Ethiopia to have a new school uniform.  Thank you for helping us reach that goal!  That was AMAZING!!!!

This April 30 (half marathon for Stef) and May 1 (5K for Jordan), we hope to cross our finish lines with Kebron in mind once again.  With your help, we would love to raise funds for the much-needed bathroom that will be built at the new Kebron Carepoint.  Please read the excerpt below, describing this fundraising need in 2016:

"Kebron Carepoint is located in Modjo, Ethiopia. Children’s HopeChest has been providing care at Kebron since 2010 when there were only 11 children attending. There are now almost 75 children being served at Kebron!
The children are served by receiving monthly food provisions, medical care, discipleship training and school fees, supplies and uniforms. We have had 5 of our children graduate from high school and now attend University. In addition to these students, there have also been 3 of the children who have graduated high school as  a local trade school. They are now employed! These are huge success stories of the difference sponsorship makes in a child’s life. The cycle of poverty and despair has been broken for them.

Kebron Carepoint has recently moved from the location where they started to a local church, Ethiopian Guenet Church. We are excited about this new partnership with a local church body. Unfortunately the new location does not have any restroom facilities. Not having access to a sanitary restroom can cause significant health risks to the children. Diseases can be easily transmitted from the lack of a proper restroom facility. Our goal is to be able to provide the funds to construct a proper restroom for the children." --Kristin, Kebron Carepoint Rep. in Lexington

Our training officially started this past week, and Jordan's doing awesome!  He loves telling his running buddies and classmates why he is training and also about his friend, Abenezer.  There's nothing like telling your friends that you're running for the potty! :)

We would love for you to follow our training journey!  I will continue to post pictures and updates as we go along.  Please also prayerfully consider partnering financially with us, as we hope to raise $1,000 for the bathroom construction at Kebron Carepoint.  Any amount you may want to contribute is incredibly helpful... from $1 to $100.   We would be so honored to cross our finish lines in April and May with your prayers and partnership!

Please email me at shead@lexingtonchristian.org if you are interested in contributing financially to Kebron's bathroom construction project.

Thank you, friends!

Getting Closer

Race Day is only 5 weeks away, and I am getting excited!  My training buddy, Angie, and I completed our first 20-miler this past Saturday, and we were so thrilled to finish strong.

As we approach April 25, we wanted to continue to invite you to join with us as we RUN FOR THE REFUGE.  If you missed my first post on the race, please check out http://www.refugeforwomen.org/.  We are so excited to partner with this incredible ministry that brings hope, healing, and new identity in Jesus to these beautiful ladies.

Would you consider the following in partnering with us?

*Please pray over the next 5 weeks with us for the women at the Refuge.

*Please email me at stfwrt99@hotmail.com with any specific prayers for your family that we could take to Jesus as we run... and run... and run. :)

*If you would like to financially partner with us and support one of our race-day miles, please email me at stfwrt99@hotmail.com.  All proceeds go directly to the Refuge for Women!

Thank you friends!

Run for a Reason

http://www.refugeforwomen.org/video/

It's time to run again, friends!

When?  Race day is April 25 in Louisville, KY

Why are you running for so. so. so. so. long??
1.  I am crazy.
2.  I am hoping to raise prayers, awareness, and funds again for the Refuge for Women.  Check out the video link above for more info on the Refuge!  Incredible mission of hope and love.
3.  I really do love to run.  Weird, I know.
4.  I'm claiming God's strength and promise that nothing is impossible with Him. :)

What's my possible role?
I am looking for 26 friends to join me in my training for this 26-miler.  Would you be willing to:
1.  Pray with me over the next 12 weeks for the Refuge for Women and ask others to pray with you?
2.  Financially "sponsor" me for one mile on race day on behalf of the Refuge for Women?
3.  Share with me one specific way I can pray over you and your family over these next 12 weeks as I train?

If ANY of the above roles interest you, please email me at stfwrt99@hotmail.com.

Thanks, friends!  Blessings!

13 Miles to Kebron: A follow up post!

Dear friends and family,

I wanted to let you know that I was able to visit with my friend, Kristin, this past week, who is the state-side representative for the Kebron community.  Kristin and her team just returned from Ethiopia a couple of weeks ago, and she had a little something to give me....

This is a letter from Eyob, a 16-year-old young man who is a part of the Kebron community.  Eyob wrote this letter to THANK YOU, TEAM, for raising the funds necessary for their new school uniforms!  Please know that this letter is for every single one of you who supported our cause in "13 Miles to Kebron".  Look what God can do when we are willing to join Him in HIS WORK!!!  So cool!

Kristin was able to talk with the in-country Kebron coordinator while she was visiting with her team.  The school uniforms should be purchased in the next month or so, and the students at Kebron will be able to wear a brand new uniform to school this fall!  WOOHOO!!!!  So awesome.  Kristin assured me that when the school uniforms are purchased, she will be sent pictures from Kebron that I can share with you all! :)

Thank you, again, team!!!  Your sacrifice has made something pretty incredible possible for the students at Kebron.  I don't know about you, but it was worth every single penny... and every single mile. :)

At the bottom of this post, I have included a link to the Kebron Community Page, where I would encourage you to consider viewing the pictures of the students at Kebron. (Click on "Sponsor a Child".)  Enjoy seeing those beautiful smiles and knowing that God invited YOU to partner with HIM to bless these kiddos in a very special way!

Also, you may notice that about 20 of the students at Kebron are still unsponsored.  As you view these pictures, please consider praying that each of these kiddos can receive sponsorship by this fall.  If you, or someone you know is interested in sponsorship, please feel free to email me at the following address:

Thank you, friends!
Love to you all!

Meet our friend, Abenezer. :)  Here, he is receiving our family's care package a couple of weeks ago when Kristin and her team were visiting.  We love you, Abenezer!!!
